Dist. cap in can NOS

NOS GM distributor V-8 cap in a box un-opened $125 shipped
real deal never opened. yes the string is still there waiting to open. I think its worth more un-opened but for the 1,000 point car a must. I Judge and if I don't find a thing wrong I look for the Delco Remy cap.

that is cool, I'd need to have three of those because I would hate to worry about it cracking since I drive my car

I was at a swap meet 22 yrs ago and this guy had 10 I bought 3 at $10 each. I used one on my 70 W-31 in 1997 and later sold one to a friend for his 70 442 he restored back to stock. I have it SOLD just waiting on P/P. Wish I bought all ten at the time but didn't have that much money then.

So you don't have a 1,000 point too bad. Any body can buy a cap at the auto parts store and work just fine. this is for the 1,000 point car some guys want it right.

I don't think you get it Gerald! I meant I have NOS Delco script out of the cans on ALL my cars. I've probably got 5-6 more cans full, too. For Hairy...most D308R's out of the can are black. Most D409R caps out of the can are brownish black. Later D409R's changed to black.

O you mean keep looking for something else. I'm real good at finding things wrong in the cars I Judge. I Judge Pontiac too and always get their seat belts, shoulder in backwards over head. The buckle goes inside not out side. And the seat tracks is not open to see its inside the carpet not bolted on top of carpet. Little things I find.

^ This is why I am glad I do not have my cars judged, I suppose one day with more time it may be fun to try to get one of my cars 100% correct but at this point in my life - ugh, no way.

I only really judge stuff like that on my car. I would never dock somebody for a cap that didn't have script. If it's black, it's good. If it came to 2 cars, then you have to look closer. Sometimes I'll point something out to an owner if he's interested. Sometimes I'll point something out that can be fixed quick for zip, like having the Delco Eye in the right hole (there's only one place for it). At the Nats in Sturbridge I pre-judged a friend's car for him. It was a 71 442 I wasn't doing that class. There were several small things that were off. It was easy stuff, the belt retractors were backwards (common), the headrest locks were backwards (buttons out), cogged belts, I forget what else. Repro belts were at the swap meet. It was rinky dink stuff you could fix easy, it was the day before judging. I offered to fix the stuff. Guy said the best restorer did it, yada, yada. James Kryta judged it and hammered it. Guy probably lost BOC because of it. But...it's not stuff I would dock for. The bar is lifted every year. Having your car high level judged isn't for everybody. People should just have fun at the level they want.

Did you mean D309R as opposed to D409R? Sometime back I did a lot of research on caps and wrote an article for a now defunct Chevelle organization. What I found for D309R's aligns with what you stated here.

... need to apply some engine paint over-spray on the cap, just as the factory did, to of course be factory correct...

They had a better aim than that. Like Mark on Graveyard Carz on his exhaust manifolds.
