(My car had a Grant on it and had the wire not the pin) I pulled the wire out of the little plastic connector that holds the spring in and put the door closer pin in there instead. It was a little tight when I tried to put it in because the head was slightly large. I chucked the pin up in a drill and ran it against some sandpaper to reduce the size and it worked out perfect - works as good as a stock part IMO.
Great idea! Will have to remember that for next time!

Out of curiosity are the base non-442 style steering wheels out of a 69 Cutlass worth anything? I have one in black with no cracks that I'd like to sell, but no idea of the value?

I have no idea on the value, mine is badly cracked on the neck? if that's what that area is called, and I won't do an epoxy repair there, because I believe that is where a lot of stress occurs while turning (manual steering). so if the price is right, I may be interested.
