'C' Heads For Sale
What are a set of bare 'C' Heads really worth? Prices seem to be all over the place for heads and it's hard to decipher. I have a set and I'm looking to sell them.

Hi George
I've sold a couple sets in the last two years. These were hot tanked and magged, complete with valve train. I priced the small valve heads at $125 and big valve at $150. They sold at that price. I've seen them advertized at $200 and not sell. So if you want to move them soon I'd keep the price down around the $100ish mark. My 2 cents worth. John

Are they the big intake valve castings? What did they come off of? I am interested in them for a 1968 442 I am restoring. One of my heads is cracked but the valves and hardware looks ok. I am in San Diego. Where are you?
#12
I'm in RI. I have no idea what they are off of. The block and heads were sitting outside some guys shop in NC back in 1986. I'd have to measure them to get you the size. The experts on here will have to tell me the proper way to measure to get the size. You realize you are over 3k miles away?

I guess we couldn't get much further away. Fed ex will still make the trip I am sure. Measure the inside of the valve seats and I will do the same with mine. Also we might see what the casting numbers are. The castings you have show no visible problems but have not been magnifluxed is that correct?

Did as best I could in measuring the seats, outside to outside seat line. There is surface rust on the heads as they have been sitting for 25 years.
Intake = 2.04

In May of 1986 I had them hot tanked, bead blasted and magnafluxed. No cracks were found. The receipt was still rolled up in the head. lol

That was fast. I will check mine tonight or tomorrow. Still need to pull a valve out. I will get back to you. Thanks a lot for checking for me.
On a side note I love the clockwork orange picture.

My cyl heads have the embossed numbers 384 548 348 and then #12 and the other head is 394 548 347 then #10.
Can anybody tell me what that means and is it interchangable with the heads TripDeuces is selling? I also came across some C heads off of a 1968 Toronado but don't know the condition. Are the casting numbers maybe showing a difference in mfg year?

I am glad you guys brought up this clockwork orange. I did a google search and now understand where your pic comes from.
All along I thought it might have been a pic of you,Trip. Or I thought maybe a pic of Meatloaf.
Before you guys make fun of me,keep in mind I watch very little tv and no movies.

A Clockwork Orange was a groundbreaking novel by Anthony Burgess, published around 1960 (if I recall), which critiqued the emptiness of modern society and the meaning of free will, and in which Burgess let his facility with foreign languages run so free that he needed to provide a glossary in the back so that his readers would not be confused.
The movie of the same name came out in 1971, directed by Stanley Kubrick just three years after he made "2001, A Space Odyssey", was based as closely on the book as a film can generally be. It drove home its themes of isolation and alienation with scenes of violence far more graphic than any heretofore seen in a mainstream movie (he was not alone in this - Sam Peckinpah was doing similar work at the same time), but yet choreographed and filmed with Kubrick's obsessive and artistic attention to detail.
In spite of its revolutionary nature, some odd details from the book were changed in the film, such as the age of the girl Alex picks up in the record store (if I recall, she was 10 in the book, but 16 in the movie when invited her to leave her "malenky like picnic-spinner" behind and "come back with Alex and hear. all. proper."
Unfortunately, it is very hard to explain the deep importance that films such as "2001," "A Clockwork Orange," and "Star Wars" had, not only on their viewers, but on society at large, because many of the revolutionary cinematic, philosophical, or æsthetic points that they introduced have since been so completely absorbed by the culture that they no longer impress.

Eric I am impressed. That is by far the best synopsis of "A Clockwork Orange" and it's fundamental impact on cinematography and society as a whole that I have ever read. You are obviously an enthusiest and an eloquent writer. I applaud and thank you. I never thought I would get that kind of information on an Oldsmobile forum!
