7040250 Quadrajet

Only because I know so many people are looking for one of these, there happens rto be a rebuilt one on ebay right now. That's all I know about it and here's the link if you wish to pursue further. I know nothing about it or the seller.

Good Luck!

shipping 230?

It's not mine that I am selling and I dont see where it says anything about shipping being 230 anything. Not sure what you are looking at. It tells me it costs 32.25 to ship it to me in Nevada and a CORE DEPOSIT is 200. Thats far from being 230 to ship it.

Yep its the basic 310 hp 70 350 automatic carb

the original one off my 70 wagon i went thru recently and richened the badly lean 50-51 rods to 44 in the front and swapped in very rich DG .337" ones in the rear and is currently doing very well on a rebuilt SBC 355 , Vortec head build I just did for my sons 74 chevy cheyenne pick up , it is about a 320 hp build mild combo

I'm thinking a new quadrajet is in order for me, based on what a mechanic (recommended by my Corvette owning friend) said. I'm not very good searching here although I did try. I looked on Summit racings site and do not see quadrajets or rochesters there. Can someone guide me to a source? Do I need the p/n from mine? I believe it is a stock unit. Thank you.

Doesn't look like a new one can be had. I was advised against getting a rebuilt one, but seems there's little choice. Any help here?

There are a bunch of very good q-jet rebuilders out there that will return the carb to like new condition. They get about $300-$400 for a show quality rebuild, a little less if your butterflies don't have to be bushed and you don't want everything replated. You have to give them your core or find a decent one to give them. It's tough to find a good used one. The threads on the filter inlet housing are the Achilles' heel on these carbs. I use Cliff Ruggles www.cliffshighperformance.com . I've never had him do a carb because I do my own (I get the kit and the good advice from him) but he's the best or one of the best. Honestly there really isn't anything that difficult that you can't do it yourself on a stock rebuild except bushing the butterfly rods. A rebuild kit from Cliff is about $50. The NAPA ones are about $30. That price does not include the bushings

Easy!

I'll second that rebuilding a QJ is easy! The most difficult part is ensuring the needles align with the jets as you reinstall the air horn to the float bowl body. Even doing the secondary butterfly valve bushings is easy if you take your time and ensure a steady/solid work surface/jig. Re-plating is easy too, but not cost effective if you are only doing a single unit.

I'll second this. I was able to rebuild my Quadrajet in an afternoon and it's now very responsive. Was also 45 years my last carb rebuild, so if I can do it anyone can. Also Pep Boys has Cliff's book for half price now - well worth the read for the history and as a reference:

Thanks for the replies. Guess maybe I should have started a new thread, apologies for not doing so. I would like to keep this carb as it is probably original, will check that this evening. If it doesn't need bushings I may attempt to rebuild it. I have some mechanical aptitude, enough to build a 1911 anyway. Thank you all again for the help.
