403 Cutlass

FS. $350 Located in Hickory NC. 403 Must pick up. I can help load it. block with heads and intake off, they come with it and maybe some other tidbits if I still have them.
Ran when pulled. I bought this a few years ago for the exhaust manifolds to finish up my 350 Rocket that I was almost done with, then I was going to rebuild the block to drop my 7a heads on. No longer have that truck and this is taking up space. I dont remeber what year cutlass, but it did run and was clean oil and antifreeze when i took it apart. I kept the cylinders oiled pretty well, the dust held the oil on :-)

I really hate to sell this and was looking forward to the project. I learned the ins and outs from reading these forums originally. My project was a 78 Chevy truck that came with that factory diesel flop. We actually did pretty good to get almost 60k from that crank before it dropped. My dad got a fresh build 350 rocket from a delta 88 he dropped in to replace it. Unfortunately, they didnt replace the steel freeze plugs when it was rebuilt. Normally, might not matter; but, it gets good/crazy.
Front brakes keep preasure after applying them and burning out the pads. Getting about 5 miles a gallon and running hot always. I replace the master cylinder, calipers, differential, calipers, master cylinder, and the pads several times....and maybe, the calipers and master cylinder and pads again.... probably the wheel bearings too; of course, because Ive replaced the routers by now too.
Turns out it was the rubber brake lines. Even though they looked to be in perfect shape, they were not. They had apparently swelled slightly, and the hold down clamp on the A-arm had prevented the hose from swelling uniformilly and had created a sort of pressure valve in the line. Pressing the brake pushed fluid thru, but would hold the pressure there and only let it pass back slow.
Here it is. Brakes would ride, burning up the pads (what made it hard to catch, not just the lines visually looked excellent, but this freak thing was equal on both sides so it wasnt pulling.) Burned much more gas. Engine stress caused much more heat. Back to the freeze plugs now, they corroded thru nice and slow. Unnoticed. Stalagtites grew off of them, and coolant never touched the ground. Head gaskets blew eventually. I was close to putting new head gaskets on in the truck but decided to pull it and the trans so I could detail it all and inspect it. (Daytona Yellow in the Rootbeer Truck)
Ended up redoing that whole motor, why not while I had it out. I was having issues with one of my exhaust manifolds when I ran into my buddy that sold me the whole motor with the exhaust manifolds. I was already done with the 350 so just finished up. But wanted to put the 7a heads on that 403 later on.
I guess thats why the story is relevant, or maybe its the beer. Or maybe neither. Or maybe its not relevant at all? God I miss my Truck and that beautiful Olds motor.
