1968 -1972 442 4 speed shifter
The handle is retained in the mechanism by clips that are mounted in rubber isolators. Somebody drilled the holes so it could be used in an aftermarket Hurst shifter. If the clip groove is gone it's worthless to use in an OEM shifter.
Look close at the bottom of the upper hole and you can see the remnants of the retainer slot for the factory shifter mechanism. All Olds factory Hurst shifters retain the handle this way. Aftermarket shifters used two bolts to mount the handle. The 64 and 65 shifters were not Hurst shifters, they were made by Muncie.
