That one's actually for 63-4 Pontiac console but can be made to work on the 64 Starfire-J1 console. If OP still has it make sure it comes with the key.
There are several threads on here about these early Dual/Gates including Hurst's suggested modifications to the Slim Jim to get the most out of it and the shifter.

Thank you for the quick reply. I want to get the Oldsmobile version of the shifter for my car. Thanks for the extra information too.
Look at the bottom of the shifter baseplate. Notice how this one is flat with an "ear" on each end. That IDs one for the Pontiac console as it fits right into the Pontiac's ribbed top surface.
Olds version's baseplate is arced to fit over the SF/J1 console top. There was also a stand-alone version for cars without consoles.
Yeah, you need the key. One, to keep the lady from having her own ratchet shifting fun (hey, Hurst's marketing, not mine. I've known plenty of high-performance women drivers!) and two, you have to have it to unlock the shifter gate so you can move the lever over to the ratchet side.
Always wondered why Hurst chose the SlimJim to introduce the Dual/Gate. But when you think back to 1963...
Chevrolet and Buick automatics had only 2 speeds, Chrysler was using pushbuttons on Torqueflite, and Ford's Cruise-O-Matic shift pattern didn't lend itself to a ratchet shifter at all.
Thank you. I’ve searched the site and can’t find the hurst transmission modification instructions. Could you please tell me what I should put in the search box. I’ve tried everything I can think of. I’m in no hurry. I need to get the car right before I make any modifications. The shifter was my exception to the rule. It’s very unique and would look right. Reading technical information keeps me motivated while I do all the grunt work. The suspension looks very original and disassembly can take awhile.
I have a copy of those modifications on another laptop. I think if you PM me with your email address, I can try to find them and email them to you. I forgot who had the originals.
My 64 Starfire has a different shift pattern than shifter pictured. Reverse(R) on mine is where L position is on the posted shifter. I was used to dropping into low(farthest back position) in a 442 and punching it, which is reverse in the 64 Starfire. When I first got it, I was very lucky a couple of times, no one was behind me when I punched it in reverse. Was definitely a habit I had to break before trashing something.
Oops, maybe R is in the lowest position in the left gate and 1 on the right gate. I can’t see very well on my phone. If that’s correct, that is cool and useful.

Knew they were in CO somewhere. Just shows that the SlimJim COULD be modified into a reasonably high-performance automatic.
Look at the exploded drawing at bottom of Don's post and you'll see the difference in the Olds console shifter plate and the Pontiac plate in the first post in the thread. Part no. 5 "Escutcheon Plate". Pontiac versions seem to be way more common and would fit 62-64 Grand Prix and console-equipped Catalina and Bonneville.
I was always kinda hoping Don was gonna do these SJ mods on that 63 Starfire he had...😈

I liked my car as was - but I think Steve Westlake is going to do them...
