I have a 64 cutlass that I would love to put a nice four wheel disc brake conversion. im runnun 17" cragers on it, and you can see alot thru them, I want to paint up a set so I want them to look good. Do you offer a four wheel set? and if so how much would one be?

Factory disk brakes came with 14" wheels. Be aware that not all 14" wheels have the same backside contour. GM made a lot of cars with the older style 14" wheels that will not clear. You need to know which style 14" wheels you have.

I have 14" wheels - they are the SS1 rallye type but I don't think they are original to the car. I'm hoping they are compatible with the factory disk brakes (I have drum now), but how do I determine which "style" they are?

SSI wheels were made both ways. The early 14x6 versions do not clear disk brakes. The later 14x7 versions do clear. Post a photo of the backside of the rim.

I have converted from drum to disc brakes 11" from CPP and my 14" wheels fit and clear. My wheels are SS III 14" X 7" wide rims. I was told the 14" X 6" wide rims will not fit disc brakes.

14/6

Well I guess that answers my question. I was trying to leave the car stock appearing with 14" steel wheels & stock hubcaps. I'm pretty sure they are not 14/7.

They would be wrong. The factory installed 14x6 Super Stock II wheels (which are identical to SSIII except for paint color) on disc brake cars in the 1968 and 69 model years. I have personally put 14x6 SSII wheels on cars with factory disc brakes.

Please read my prior post carefully. We are talking about Super Stock ONE wheels only. The issue isn't the width (think about, wider rims make clearance worse). The issue is the shape of the backside of the rim. There are lots of 14x6 wheels that clear factory discs. The 14x6 SSI wheels do not.

And yet again (sorry, but I've typed this many, many times over the years here), ALL SSII/III wheels clear factory disc brakes.

wasn't there a 14x6 that was like jk code or something that would clear disc brakes?

OK - Per Joe's request here is a few backside pics of the SS1that I am trying to figure out if it will fit over a disk brake (OEM or otherwise). They are 14" for sure, but I'm not sure if they are 14x6 or 14x7, or if they are the right 14x6 per Joe.

Last pic is for someone to confirm I have an SS1 (with a trim ring).

I'm betting this is a SS1 for a drum....

So what's the verdict?

that should be a 70-72 ss1 the early wheels did not have trim rings. I believe that will work with disc I think there is a number under the trim ring by the valve stem

So the only way for me to know if my stock 67 steel hubcap rims is to try them, correct?

There are 3 numbers and what looks like a symbol of some sort. No idea what they mean...

I will always defer to Joe when it comes to anything Oldsmobile. That being said, my late build (06D) 1969 Cutlass S has its original 14x6 SSI wheels. It was a power drum brake car. I converted the fronts to disc using a used, but complete setup from a 1970. I knew the original SSI's would not fit so I didn't bother to even try to put them on when we completed the conversion. I already had a set of 15x7 SSII's that I knew would fit, since they came off a disc brake car. One of my friends who helped with the conversion didn't know the SS1's wouldn't fit, so while I was off doing something else, he put them on. I saw them on and called over to him "Hey, those don't fit anymore. Take 'em off." He looked at me, smiled and spun the front wheel. It spun perfectly without any clearance issues.

Joe has forgotten more Olds information than I will ever know, but I can say this; My late-build SSI 14" wheels do fit over factory disc brakes.

My Cutlass had drum brakes and 14x6 steel wheels with hubcaps. After I did the conversion I tried them on and realized that 2 of the wheels will clear the brakes and 2 of them wouldn't.

These should clear.

So back to my original question. As 70cutty said that 2 of his 14" hub cap wheels fit & 2 didn't. So is the only way to know is to try them on after I do the front disc conversion!?
I really didn't want to find out later I have to buy wheels. No #s stamped on the wheels to match up? I really want this car to look like a "sleeper" after I'm done. Like a Road Runner idea but it's an Olds!!!!!
