SOLD.............................................. ...........1953 Olds starter

In my search for a starter for my 54 324 I purchased a 53 piece that will not work with the 176 tooth flywheel. This starter is for a '53 Olds with the 145 tooth flywheel and is a 12 volt unit. Very clean and works but I did not engage the engine due to the issue of the larger flywheel. I am passing this along for what I have invested in the unit, $150 + the ride. Send me a PM if interested.

You could probably change the bendix (starter drive) on the starter and use it. Do you have the bendix off your old starter?

No I do not. This has been a long duration build and a couple of years ago I shipped my starter to a fellow down under not realizing that the starter I kept was for a 6 volt 145 tooth flywheel engine. Talk about stupid decisions! As it turns out the nose cone of the correct starter has a different bolt hole orientation which rotates the drive further away from the flywheel (176 tooth) for proper engagement. Both the 53 12 volt and the 54 piece appear to have the same size drives but the 53 starter's cone holes place the drive closer to the engine for engagement with the smaller 145 tooth flywheel.

What this starter refurbished with all new inner guts or is this just a old 53 starter that nothing has been done to and should be rebuilt. That ha a lot to do with price if i have to take it to pay someone to rebuild it and to buy all new parts. Tell me what has been replaced prior to you buying it or having it done. You can call me 541 234 6440 Walt
