14" SS1 Wheels - Set of 4

Set of 4 SS1 wheels removed from my 69 Cutlass. One has curb damage. The tire wont hold air, not sure if its from the damage or the junk tire thats on it. Have the 4 center caps. 3 tires are decent. Can have the tires if local, otherwise I will dismount them and can ship the wheels.

Are there any markings on the back side of the rim, such as a two-letter wheel code plus some numbers that might indicate a date?

3 of the 4 wheels have m4 over 9, 5 8 LY. The 4th wheel is still on the car, but Im sure it will be the same.

With the chrome rim I'm thinking these are the early 14X6 wheels rather than the 1971 14X7. With the tires still mounted can you tell which width they are?

I justed measured and I think its 7" from outer lip to outer lip. So that would make it a 14x6? Thinking about taking the one with the junk tire and having it dismounted tomorrow.

Those are definitely the late '69 SSI production wheels that will fit on cars with disc brakes, 14X6.

Hmm...I didn't realize they would work for disc brakes. Maybe I'll just hang on to them then. Thanks for the info!

Yes, the "9" in the M4 over 9 indicates these wheels were manufactured in 1969. The LY code says they are the SSI wheel Olds made in 1969 to fit disc brakes. The 5 8 says that the production date of these wheels (your 4th is probably the same) is May (5), 8th (8), 1969.

From what I've seen, the LY wheels were produced for about 4 months, from the beginning of April 1969 to the middle of July 1969. Before that, there were no SSI wheels that fit disc brakes. After that, Olds went to 14X7 wheels for the 1970 models. I have a set of these wheels on my '69 4-4-2 convertible and it has factory disc brakes.
