I want to paint my car DuPont basecoat flame orange, code 65 and 5435a.Is there a palce to get the formula? The biggest paint shop in town says they can not get a formula,just for PPG.Would ppg cover as well as dupont? Would I need 3 qts for a convertible,with yellow primer to cover up? A guy who paints show cars will paint it for me,been a long time since I painted and he wants dupont but I want ppg to get this done.thanks

Does anyone know where I can get a paint formula for code 65,flame orange met? Would like dupont if possible.no one in town can make it except for ppg omni.Is there a very close match on another car make and model? I need a a formula or paint panel I can bring to the shop and try to match it,I went to all the local shops and they all want a small piece to match.The car is ready to paint,never knew this would be a problem.Thanks alot

 

i think that was a one year only color. my 72 el comino I had years ago was that color from the factory. I believe it is Ditzler 2450 which is now PPG (dont quote me on that though)

 

When you go to colorlibrary, enter your year and make where indicated, that will pull up an Oldsmobile paint chart for the year, jot down the paint code listed and enter where they cue you, and the type of paint that you want(basecoat for example) and it will give you the manufacturers, formulas and price.

I found that only omni makes this paint,looks very good,just a little surprised that dupont and ppg don't have formulas for these older cars.

 

Omni is PPG.

 

I have found that PPG/Omni is about the most user friendly product I have ever used. Omni branch seems to have slightly less color matches but they are forgiving products.

 

Sounds like you're all set, FWIW BASF has 2 basecoat formulas for this in Diamont line.

 

Omni is PPG's economy brand that is still solvent based. Not as high quality as PPG's deltron line or duponts chroma line (those 2 are on par) but omni makes good paint all the same.
The reason the paint formula does not exist in the deltron or chroma line is some of the really old toners and metallics. Metallics especially have come a long way since the 60's. And since these paint lines are made for modern body shops they stopped making some of the metallics and a few of the toners that were for matching collisions on cars that are over 40 years old. You just don't see them coming into the body shops everyday so they slowly phased out those toners.
There are formulas for PPG and chroma for our cars, but they would call for a certain toner that the paint store wouldn't have on their rack... so the computer system just dropped the formula.
Omni is sub brand of PPG that is also intended for the home market, so they keep all the specialty toners and old metalics specifically for this type of application.
Anyone familiar with dupont should have no problems shooting omni.
