Yes. The -- is the cowl tag o f my brother's Rallye 350. I have seen non-Rallyes with one of the four extra cost paint colors with either the double dash or the actual paint code. Would be interesting to find out why the difference. Not sure what code was used for the extra cost mist paint or a color from another model or division.

- - was used for all special order paint cars, whether one of the four "advertised" special order colors or for one of the non-standard colors using RPO codes like Y62, Y63, etc. I don't know why Olds switched from - - to actually showing the paint codes on the four advertised colors - maybe they weren't so "special" after all...

Joe, not all the special order paint codes were -- --. I know of several 72 Cutlass models that have code 19 19 on the cowl tag. That's not something you see every day.

As I pointed out, Olds used both - - and the actual paint code numbers at various times, and I certainly don't know why they did one or the other. The point of my previous post, which could have been worded better, was to answer anthonyP's question about what was on the cowl tag for special order paints such as non-GM colors, not only the "special order" colors that were advertised.
