looks pretty cool... sucks you dropped that trim. I like the black door handles and locks
Are you going all black on the grills? i think that will look good i tried to picture them black w green but i think all black will look better
what about the bumpers? black or green ? I vote green but its your car

I'm doing the grills half matte black and half gloss black imagine the original is silver with matte black stripe inside in my earlier Pic and I'm basically painting the silver gloss and leaving the stripe matte and for now I'm leaving the bumpers chrome and maybe later I'll decide if I want to paint them black but to be honest I don't think I'm gonna do green
. So the only thing that will be chrome / polished is the wheels and bumpers. For now that's my plan

yeah the matte black next to the gloss black looks really nice IMO, I have that combo on one of my vehicles and several people have commented on it.
I wondered about chrome on the bumpers , but the color is a modern color and not much has chrome bumpers these days
i was thinking like the rally 350 paint them body color....

How would you prep the chrome if you do decide to paint it? Is there an acid etch or something to scuff the chrome? Hard to rechrome easier to paint maybe after you see it all together... I do like the rallye gecko idea

I'm going to be honest I don't know if there is something special to do for painting chrome but if i do it'll be like I did for the door handles which is sand with either 180 or 220 to let the primer bite in and use bulldog adhesion promoter then prime than wet sand than paint I've actually done this before and it held up really well no chipping or flaking

I spent the whole day preparing the car and wow does it take long!! It looks like I'll be painting it either tomorrow or maybe I can ask my boss to take Monday off. She's getti'n there!
This is my first time using a inflatable paint booth so I hope it turns out OK. My other booth isn't big enough to fit a whole car it's for painting small golf cart bodys

Yeah when I first heard of them it was only 2 months ago and I was surprised they existed as well but really happy cause that means I don't have to paint in the open to bugs and wind and dust and all sorts of crap

OK thank you for letting me know. that doesn't sound like a bad deal but I promised myself I would buy a rear bumper with cutouts if I ever bought another one and so it's just not worth it for me and probably the most relevant truth is I'm trying to spend as minimal as possible since I had just recently bought a bunch of parts for my car.

Well? The end result is very pleasant the bad news? two drips on the lower quarter and and sill.
Imo not that bad considering I was painting in pitch black darkness..
The booth did a wonderful job at keeping the bugs out as there were swarms of bugs last night trying to get in the booth and I only got one bug in the entire car wich I just plucked out wich tweezers and I'll buff that and the runs later. It came out spectacular

So I did some research into painting chrome and talked with my local paint supply store and found out your supposed to sand the chrome and use self etching primer/to bare metal primer so that is what im doing

Yeah the paint is looking really good, your doing a great job thanks for documenting it on here. Im sure all the guys whose cars have been held captive at the body shop are like damn thats quick.
i just met a guy the other day who traded w a body shop some tractor parts for paint work. 6 months later he was picking up his tractor parts to paint himself. He said everytime he went to the shop his parts got moved further from the work area, his last visit found the parts to be painted in the rafters, thats when he pulled them.
seeing the bumpers all sanded down gave me another thought. An aluminum color, vs chrome or green or black. I think that would look good, but my first vote is green, then al, thenchrome, then red primer , then black lol.

I decided to paint the bumpers green and I think it'll look so cool when it's done
..
To RetroRanger your wish comes true.
I got a lot of other people saying I should do green and I thought about it and I really like it too

That is pretty cool.
I Installed the rear bumper today and it looks great Im dying to install the front fenders but I have to spend some time working on the engine bay there's some rust up where the battery goes and I'll probably spend Saturday on that and than I'm going on vacay next week so I won't be working on the car and will continue the assembly process when I get back and of course paint the hood, that is my dirty diaper I don't want to deal with because it's fiberglass and it seems like a bad/cheap reproduction it doesn't exactly line up correctly and I'm terrible at using body filler for that I'm only good with small dents so yeah I just hope it will work out OK and I won't need/want to buy another hood.In the meantime I love the black bolts for the bumpers!!

The grills look mint i really like the matte/ gloss look together especially on those 442 grills
the aftermarket all fiber hoods are like the originals an OK at best fit unless you spend some time w them.
the nicer OAI hoods fit better and can cost 3k ish.
heres a pic of matte n gloss black on one of my other vehicles… the pic makes the matte look greyer but its black ish in real life
