painting in a garage...
I hate painting cars in my garage when the temp is not optimal.(Rarely ever is) Flash times are a killer...Uneven temp everywhere... I hate it... I've been waiting since 11:20 and 12:27 now.
I was not there when my friend painted my Supreme this past summer (mid June in CA) but all I know is I sanded out a LOT of orange peel. I told him I wanted to be there when he sprayed, but he went ahead and did it alone. That day was about 88 degrees in his garage, and his compressor kept kicking off from electrical issues. He had to keep running over and flipping it back on, thus interrupting his shooting. It's all sanded and buffed out now, and looks great, but all this could have been avoided if.....
Well there are ways to compensate for temps and humidity. I just had to wait about an hour between coats. I don't keep my garage heated so the slab was cold. Probably a 20 degree difference from waist high to knee level and I was becoming irate because I wanted to head up to the lake and enjoy but I just need to get this pile of junk S 10 ZR 2 done. Needed a cab corner and a door bottom on the 3rd door and paint the lower section.I was just aggravated from the wait and explaining this to a 6 and a 9 year old was pointless. Maybe someone else would see how un fun it can be and wait till it makes more sense.
lol. I think that anyone who has ever painted in the garage with no way of controling the temp has been there done that bought the t-shirt! unless you're spraying in an environment that is heated with circulated air, (paint booth) you are definetly at the mercy of temperatures and humidity levels. There are too many variables when you spray at different temps. gun set-up and air pressures, reducers, activators, blushing in high humidity, black...... I know its sometimes impossible to have to wait for a long period of stable temperatures, but for over-alls it's a must!!
Garages or outside sure aren`t ideal . Painted mine yesterday (the car that is getting the 66 toro). An insect scientist`s dream with all the little critters that appear and settle. ( I don`t mind those smaller insects whose legs break off with the tack cloth ! Those larger ones that just do high speed , continous 360 degree burnouts are less loveable)
Must say ,trying to get at the undersills and being hunched over like a dog sha$%ing a baseball wasn`t fun .
Still you gotta do what u gotta do sometimes .

The only problem I had with painting in my garage, was a big fly in the clear on the roof looking like a hood ornament with it's legs stuck in after I returned to the garage.
After some work, the legs are still there, but not noticable.

At least I have a vinyl roof
Did you call the fly rude names ? lol
