Paint Shop Recommendations in Atlanta or Surrounding Area

Hello,

I am looking for someone to paint my 72 Oldsmobile Supreme that won't take six months or longer to do it. Any recommendations would be great.

Two places I would recommend NOT going, Elite in McDonough and Magnum in Marietta.

From what I have heard others say, if the shop is good, plan on a long wait and take your checkbook.

What kind of budget are you working with?

Considering the car is in pretty good shape and I am going with the same color with the addition of Rally Stripes, I am thinking 5k.

Depending on what you are looking for and how much work you do yourself, you may need to reconsider that.

What state is the car in and/or will be when you take it to the paint shop?

5k isn’t unreasonable for a re-spray on a car that is disassembled. However if the shop is going to have to disassemble/reassemble and you are expecting the car to be stripped to metal, you would need to at least double, but probably triple that budget.

The reason is ask is because these answers largely determine who I would recommend.

The amount is not an issue. I said 5k because I was quoted that price from a body shop that could not give me a time frame on how long they will have my vehicle. I am seeking recommendations for quotes so I can hopefully get it done by spring.

Have you considered doing the body restoration yourself by taking an evening auto body course at a local votech? $5000 would be more than enough for materials and class fees if you did it yourself.

Unfortunately, having it done by Spring 23 is probably not a very realistic goal. Even if you paid BIG BUCKS to have it ready for Pebble Beach.

I own a paint shop in Conyers, but I only do low budget production work. If someone is capable of doing all the R&I, body work and most of the prep work, then I am a great option. I can lay down a nice base/clear that you can cut & buff then reassemble and have a really nice paint job for a fraction of what most shops charge. If that is not the case, I can recommend someone else, but it really depends on what state the car is in/will be in when you take it to the shop & what your budget is. If you want someone to disassemble it, do all the body work, paint it, buff it and reassemble it, you're going to need to spend at least $10k-$15k. More if there's sheet metal replacement or much bodywork needed.

So this is why you're getting more questions than answers. Until we have more information we can't help you. Me sending you to a shop that's going to charge you $20-$30k when you're on a $5k budget isn't going to do you any good. You'd be better off pulling up google results and spending a couple days driving around getting estimates at as many shops as you can, looking at their work and researching their reputation, then picking the one you like.

If I needed a shop to do a nice paint job on my cutlass right now, I'd probably go to 198 Collision in Monroe. Not sure what their wait time is like right now, but I do know they aren't going to be easy on your wallet. Most collision shops aren't going to take on a restoration project and most restoration shops aren't going to do anything that is relatively low budget. Demand for their services is too high right now.
