need paint ideas
So I'm going to send my 72 cutlass conv to the paint booth soon....BUT the color I picked out in the beginning isn't going to work....I'm trying to make Qs 442 clone....my interior is white so the 442 stripes and rallies will be white. Can you guys help me pick out a color? I like picking new colors off of new cars......any suggestions?

If you are considering colours from new cars, just go walk some car lots on a sunny day. Sunday would probably be a good day to do it.
I'd also suggest if you find a colour you do like, try buying a spray can of it and paint up a small sample (scrap metal) including some white stripes. Still not the same as seen it on the car, but it helps. I did the same thing for my project.

Just about any color has a formula for todays BC/CC 2-stage paint, but your old lacquer samples won't be dead-on.
Reds will cost you the most, with black being the least expensive.
I, personally, like the old Cadillac Firemist colors, and have done a lot of color changes using that, but, each to his own!
Royal Plum Firemist on white looks excellent!

How much are you looking to spend on paint? If you decide on a color check the formula and cost. Alot of the new colors have really expensive toners in them. I just had to fix a rollover focus at work it was a really nice metallic red. We mixed some nason for the jambs but the color wasnt close enough to matching factory. So i mixed some autocolor for the car it matched really good but it took an entire pint of of xr12 toner to mix it. I forget the cost but but for the 2 qts i think it was $500 or $600. Another thing to think about is how well the paint covers. Metallics cover better then pearls. Off hand i know there is a new toyota red with alot of pearl in it so it dont cover best and is really expensive. Ask your painter or do a spray out with it first. If it dont cover well you will need more coats to cover. More coats = more paint = more $.
