1972 442 stripe question

Hi all,

I recently bougtht a 442 stripe stensil kit for a 1972 442 with OAI hood (not the W30 stripe kit)

When I put the stensil kit against the side fo the car, it does not exactly "hug" the front/back wheel well openings, rather the lower of the 3 stripes looks to be right where on flat horizontial surface of the fender/quarter starts to bulge out at the wheel well opening(s).

Can anyone tell me if this is where they should be?

Jim

IIRC, the bottom stripe is about 1/2" above the edge of the fender lip where it meets the shiny trim piece. But the wheel well stripes do wrap around the wheel well on the lip and not on the vertical face of the fender. My mind isn't as sharp as it used to be, so I can't be 100% sure on the exact measurement, but it should look something like this '71 when you get them on.

Wow, A 442 without the hood scoops. That is one rare car! I love the color and the hood stripe.

Patton Glade sent pics of original 442 stripe locations, maybe someone here can locate the post?

Just keep in mind 1970 442 non-W-30 stripes were only 2 stripes, and they landed different on the vertical surface of the fenders/doors/quarters. They're positioned a bit lower on the sides than the non-W 71-72 442 stripe theme. Although it's tough to find any 442 without a W-25 hood and W-30 style side stripes anymore.

1971 on the left, 1970 on the right.
