Hey guys - I have a line on a jack assembly the seller indicates is correct for my 68 442 convertible - photo attached - can anyone confirm if this is the right jack for my car? Thanks! Don

The jack looks correct but it has the wrong hook. Here's the one you need. $60 shipped. The one you have pictured looks to be 69-70.

'68 and '69 jack hooks are the same. I don't know if there is a difference between the 68/69 and 70 jack hooks, though. As well, the hook is missing a rubber piece that fits onto it but it can be purchased reproduction through Fusick.


As well, most jacks are dated, if you are interested in that. Look on the head of one of the fasteners on the part that slides up and down and you might see a number and a letter. The number indicates the calendar year (8=1968, 9=1969) and the letter is the month of that year (A=January,...skip I because it looks like a 1,...to M=December).

The hook for the A-body has 1968 F-85 stamped on it -- They did that to differentiate them from the big car B-body one because they are so very close.

 

Also do yourself a favor and never use the jack. Use a properly placed floor or sissors jack on the frame or chassis to lift the car. That OEM bumper jack bumper cradle does a nice job of dimpling the bumpers, especially the rear.

 

I think the dual pin cradle might be for Big Cars.

Agreed, the jack is for emergency use only, just call your service or use a mini hydraulic jack. Of course you need the bumper jack to complete the trunk appearance though.

 

And just to differentiate a little bit, the '69 cradle has "1968-69 F-85" stamped into it.

Thanks for all the replies and info guys. Where on the hook is the 68 F85 stamp located? I'm assuming on one of the flat sides? The guy that has it says it is stamped 68 F85, but I can't see it on any of the photos he sent. Pretty rusty in places. I'm meeting him next weekend when he's in the area so I can verify before buying it, but it's always nice to know in advance.

 

I think it's on the face the bumper sits next to in use, or backside of that.

It'll be pretty obvious.

 

Here is the 68 hook, the stamping is just above my scribbles.

Apologies for the bad info guys. I was told my hook was for a 68.
Maybe for the big cars then?

 

Is there a # stamped into it? That might help, with a PN manual or whatnot
