Hi everyone,
Just joined, I was wondering what a 1970 Rallye 350 is similar to as far as parts go. ( Cutlass, 442 ?)
I have a Rallye 350 that has been sitting for approx. 20 years & would like to get it up & running, but when I go to look for parts a Rallye 350 is not in any drop down option.
Does it go by any other name?
Also is it similar to other GM cars as far as parts go? Thanks For All The Help.

 

Your's would be the same as a Cutlass S Holiday Coupe.

 

For mechanical parts you can use Cutlass and 442 with the exception of engine differences as yours is a small block Olds.

The Rallye 350 was just an option package offered on various F-85 and Cutlass models. Your VIN will tell you exactly what model the car is. Note that the F-85, Cutlass, and 442 are all the same body shell with different trim and emblems. Other than the size of the base engine, they are all mechanically identical.

Can you post up some photos of the data tag and some more shots of it ? Then let's get it out to play .

Yes please post your Vin and fisher tag on the fire wall info, or snap a pIc of each. I'm trying to compile a Rallye data base. I have alot of good info, but I'm not an expert. Is yours a rust free example? Stick or auto trans? Numbers matching? If you ever want to part with it I'm always on the hunt.

 

I will work on that for you droldsmorland It is not totally rust free.....It is just starting to bubble through in a few places. Not bad at all though, you can just barely see it. It has an automatic w/ a side manual. I think it's called a "His and Her" ? shifter. As far as I know it is a numbers matching. I doubt I will ever want to sell it. It was part of my Dad's collection, so it has some special meaning to me.........I will try to post trim tag info later next week.

Nice car, welcome. Shouldn't it have # 6 heads? Are those #8's?

 

If you zoom in I believe they are #6, but it is hard to see unless zoomed in.

I have noticed this numerous times. #6 heads look like #8 heads in photos. I have many examples.

 

Agree, I have two pairs of #6 heads, Olds made the 6 almost overlap, so you have to look twice in photos.

 

Hello everyone!
I am new to the group, but my father had a 1970 Rallye when he graduated high school & sold it. I eventually ended up finding a similar one for him and purchased it- great car & he is like a 18 year old again!! Car gets plenty of compliments and head turners! I included some pictures.
My question to the group is how can I go in and decode not just the vin but build sheet as well? I didn't check, but I know Mopars have a tag on the fender to help identify. Does Oldsmobiles have them as well and is there a place I can go to decode it? I want to build him a book and metal plaque that we can take to car shows.

1. The vin
2. The fisher body tag under the hood
3. The original window sticker
4. POP card in the warranty book
5. Original dealer paperwork
6. The line card or build sheet found under the carpet or in seat springs above gas tank et al...

Olds, unfortunately, does not have the luxury afforded to Pontiac Mopar Ford etc..

Chances of a Lansing built car having a line card or build sheet is nearly zero.

Are you questioning the car's authenticity as a true Rallye 350?

And you won't. The only documentation you could verify this with is its original window sticker or build sheet or line card. The latter two are almost never found in Lansing built cars. Have you looked for either?

The Fisher Firewall tag will list a few but never all like a Mopar.

TR930 interior code and the paint code - - is about all you have for option codes.

04C is the build date. 4th week in April which is right for a Rallye

These cars didn't come with a ton of options like the crap you get on today's junk. As they were intended as an insurance busting budget package junior car. However, I have seen some strippos and some with all options so there were choices within the W45 package, but just standard stuff. W45 which is the Rallye package with its mandatory options Code 51 paint indicated by (--) on the tag, FE2, W25, L74, N34 ,D35, N10, W35. Options were but not limited to His/Hers shifter, M21 (could have had an M15 3 speed stick) or M38 Auto trans, G80 SH or SJ code rear end the aluminum pumpkin cover is reported to be available but not the W27, A/C cruise, power locks & windows. Certain options mandated others such as A/C dictated the rear and trans. His/Hers was only available with M38 etc...

Thank you- the guy I bought it from said it had a lot of options, His/Hers shifter, interior light package, 4 spoke steering wheel, a/c, clock, hood lock and rear suspension....all were supposed to be factory options according to him!

 

N34 steering wheel is part of the Rallye W45 package. FE2 sport suspension package automatically comes with the W45 package as well. FE2 includes upgrades to both the front and rear suspension components, mainly larger front sway bar, additional rear sway bar with "boxed" lower control arms and upgraded springs and shocks. That's why these cars handle so well. The hood lock (code T44 remote interior pull handle), clock and light group are add-on options.
Does it have the Rallye dash gauge package option? This would include actual gauges vs idiot lights in the left pod and a clock/tach combo in the right pod...AKA code U21 Ralley PacK. This was an add-on option as well, not standard as one would think.

 

It has the clock on the right pod- not sure about the tach- neither work right now. It does have the idiot light on the left pod for coolant temp. I should take a picture and double check it. Thanks,

Thats the standard issue dash. Clock can be rebuilt with quartz action. Rallye gauges are reproduced if you feel the need to install them.

That looks like a really nice car, & you're parents look very happy. Hopefully by next year mine will be up & running. I don't seem to have the two basic parts........time & money.

 

Finally got the Rallye home this past weekend. Will try to get to work on it after the Thanksgiving weekend. Have a quick question:
Do the Brake & Fuel lines run through the frame at any point? (Not along the frame). ie: Would I have to remove the body to replace them?
Is the fuel tank the same as a Cutlass?

The car IS a Cutlass. Of course the fuel tank is the same.

As for the lines, the factory bolted them to the frame prior to installing the body. If you have a full length pre-bent replacement line, it is nearly impossible to install it in one piece without raising the body or severely mangling the new line to snake it into place.

 

I thought I remembered someone telling me that. Had to laugh at myself for that question.
Well I was hoping the lines didn't run through the frame. Hopefully they are alright. I hate to spend the time or money to raise the body off just to replace the lines.

Ok crawled underneath & it looks like the brake line that run along the frame does not go through the frame. I cannot seem to find a full line kit for manual drum brakes. I can find front kits & rear kits, but not a full kit. (Line that runs along the frame). I did find a kit for a 442, would I be right in assuming it is the same? Anyone have any tips where I can find a kit, if the 442 one does not fit? Thanks for any help. Hopefully she will be up & running/stopping before spring. Oh Also, is this a Ram Air car? Sorry 'bout all the questions. Just wanna get the right parts.
