starter drive wanted

I was just handed a 1928 olds F28 starter to rebuild. He wants me to change it from 6 volt to 12 volt. The only problem I am having is finding a drive for it. I would prefer to install a new drive, but it looks like I may have to rebuild the old one. Any help would be appreciated. The starter # is 714-H the drive number is 1840598. This is a 6 volt Delco starter.

I'm not sure what voltage has to do with the starter drive but I have ran 6 volt starters on 12 volts as long as you do not crank them for long periods. As far as changing the wiring to 12 volt, you will have to talk to an automotive engineer skilled in auto electrical circuits.

Voltage has nothing to do with the drive. I suggested he keep it a 6 volt as it will spin much faster if being used in a 12 volt system. It is a manual engagement so the drive won't be slammed like an inertia or spring type which can break if being used with 12 volts. The drive teeth are worn and ground down at the end. If I have to I can weld the teeth and regrind the angle cuts on the teeth. I realize the drive is only 90 years old but I would like to replace it with a new one anyway.

Thanks, but that is a generator. I will look on ebay for a starter. I appreciate the help. As of now I have found a way to use parts from 2 different new drives to make a new one that I need. Thanks to all who have tried to help.
