Orig options for a 62 Starfire.

Orig options for a 62 Starfire.
Anyone know what kind of options you could get on a 62 Starfire? I have seen the power trunk lock, power antenna, autotronic eye, wonderbar radio... was there anything else??

Rear speaker w/ reverb, power windows/driver seat (std convertible), power vent windows, A/C, front seat belts, half a dozen gear ratios (3.42 std), plus all the standard Starfire equipment. There's other obscure options like floor and trunk mats, CA emissions equipment, lamp packages etc.

Did they ever have fender skirts?? I saw a few with the fuel door stainless trim...something similar to what a 55 chevy had. Seems that there were not as many options for cars in the 60s, compared to all the options you could put your money into during the 50s. The electric razor and the Kool cushions come to mind

Gm offered all kinds of extras like a tissue box that was mounted under the dash and more but Starfire options were cruise control either dealer installed or factory, gas door guard, am radio with foot control (wonderbar control) power windows and power vent windows (these were controled from the console above the shifter) power seat drivers side only, power trunk release, power antenna, reverb, air conditioning, tinted glass and a towing package which was a closed frame on a coupe, there might be other options but tilt steering, am/fm, power door locks and left hand exhaust manifold for dual exhaust were not 62 options.
Steve
The foxcraft skirts were in stainless or in primer ready for colour match and from what I recall the plant burned down in the mid sixties and they didn't rebuild so the only skirts you can find are the original ones from them.

I had forgot cruise control was available in 62. For some reason I thought it came out in 63 for Olds, then I remembered seeing a 62 with it at a Nationals several years ago.
I have a pair of stainless Foxcrafts for the 64s, but I rarely leave them on. I can't run the wire wheelcovers with them due to spinner clearance issues, and more and more I think the 64 looks its best with the wires.

Hey, a couple of other options are Autronic Eye, and Speed Minder

As long as it was working right...
WonderBars have never fascinated me like they do some folks. The only one I ever had, had problems and no matter where the sensitivity was set would not lock onto any station frequency- not even two strong local AM stations. It would keep seeking until you cut the ignition off- turning the radio off had no effect on the seeker. You had to turn the ignition switch off.
And natcherly the damn WonderBar was the first gadget someone new to riding in the car would push. "Hey what's this button do?" and before I could say "DON'T!" here goes the WonderBar, bzzht-click, bzzht-click until I could get stopped.
I had to keep the glove box locked on that car too, to keep them out of the power trunk release. Otherwise you'd be riding down the road and the decklid would fly up.
I also often wished for a power window lockout switch like Cadillacs had. One of my friends, from the time he got in that car until he got out, whatever window he was at was constantly going up and down until I unloaded on him one day and told him to leave the !@#$%! windows alone.
I did have fun with the Tilt-Telescopic on that Ninety Eight though. You'd get someone in there who hadn't ridden in the car before, it was great fun to unscrew the telescope lock ring and start pulling the steering wheel toward you like you were taking it off...
And then listen to the screaming start!

I know what you mean with the power windows, which is why I don't like letting my wife's younger relatives in our bwm.. Kids seem to want to push about every button they see, and never seem to keep their feet off of stuff!!
I can only imagine someone pushing the trunk release button as you are going down the highway Lol!!! That would not be good at all. I have always thought the wonder bar radios were neat since my 56 chevy had one, but it was not working at the time. Would it be possible to get the rear speaker with the regular radio??
This car will be a new adventure for me. Should be interesting... I can't wait for it to get here.

The wonderbar radio came with a foot control that would allow you to scan or seek a new station by just pressing down on the switch, it was located below the high beam switch and more often than not you would be driving along and hit the wrong switch and change the station.

Tilt-Telescopic was introduced in 1966 and was available on all Olds B, C and E bodies as well as B body Chevrolets. I don't remember ever seeing one on a 1966 Buick or Pontiac. Cadillacs by nature could have them.
Interestingly it was also available on Chrysler and Imperial in 1966 as they bought Saginaw steering components from GM.

thats good information but viper is getting a 62 starfire so talking about options that were not available yet kinda gets in the way of what he needs to know to figure out what makes his car tick, sorta like bringing disc brakes and anti-loc to the table so getting back on track we have covered just about all the options available other than paint styles and wheel cover options.
I hope you like the STARFIRE as a special car that will turn heads and cruise down the hi-way keeping up with all the others out there
