Frame woes.....

So I finally got underneath my 64 Starfire for the first time. There was quite a bit of rust and rot, more than I was hoping for. Right behind the front wheels and in front of the rear wheels where the frame ties into those frame "boxes", they are completely rotted away. It looks as though I will be performing some frame surgery on the this vehicle. I'm not the happiest camper about this. and after I clean and inspect damage underneath, I pull it off the jack and go to pull it back in the garage and a brake ruptures. Great, this car is going to be more of a project than I anticipated.

Is it just me, or is this frame kind of a poor design?

Frame rot is the worste. Normally I would suggest sourcing a better frame but that vehicle is likely to be a very tough find. I'm sure someone will chime in with more info though.

your running a 64 88 frame that is probably open (boxed frames were convertable or towing package) so if I'm right a 63-64 full sized 88 frame will interchange, a 98 frame can be shortened in the side rails to work. You should be able to get one from the mid west and do a swap.
Barring all that, patching a frame while still under the body is alot of work and you can't weld in some places and you will get twisting as the frame restresses after shrinking a cooling.
