Has anybody install one of the aftermarket hotrod heater/AC units. I will be installing one in my 1948 Olds along with the 455. If anyone has had experience with these let me know how the fit/finish and how well the system worked.

You have probably already done this but, go over to HAMB and check there. I am positive guys there have done it. If you haven't or don't post there let me know and I'll do it for you.

Vintage Air... not the cheapest but well designed and good customer support

 

I'll second that. I don't know if you can buy brackets to mount their compressor on an Olds motor. You may need to make your own.

 

I've looked at vintage air and Clasic auto air. vintage looks to be the better package. They do not make a bracket for the Olds engine, but they do make it for the buick and the pontiac. I would assume that this is something I could fab up. I will go to the junk yard and look at buick and pontiac brackets to see if modifying one or the other would work.

I put Classic Air in my 69 Roadrunner. The system was real simple to install believe it or not. I had an AC guy charge it. You do need to make sure you have all the right parts as soon as you receive it. I think any of the universal systems could be made to work . The Sandeen compressor is the only way to go. It blows Ice cold. You may not have any floor heat on some models, just out the underdash vents. If you have any problems when you do it, let me know, maybe I can help.

 

Old Air has a replacement for the original A6 compressor that fits the original bracket. It has an aluminum body and is about 1/2 the weight of an A6. It also is supposed to take a lot less HP to turn. The big negative - kind of expensive but it eliminates having to fab a mount. I am thinking of going that route while installing A/C in my '66 98 convertible. I haven't decided on a system as yet. I have an original setup but I think it is too much work to make the changeover. At least I have all the brackets and pulleys to relocate the alternator and drive the A/C.
