about the trans options on the 1970 Rallye

Hey guys, new to the club and I hope to be the owner of a 1970 Rallye real soon. I want to buy the right one..I know from the looks of things that this is the place to get the "real" info. Anyway, I have a couple that i am looking at. I really want the hurst shift, but cant afford all that. I figured I would go with the His/hers shift as I figure that will be more fun and desirable down the road when I can afford (I hope) the hurst shift. I looked at a great looking car today. The question is it had automatic on the console. NOT his hers. I thought there was only 3 options in the shift on this car. Am I wrong? I REALLY love the Rallye and IO want one bad and I hope this is the one, but that threw me for a loop. If anybody knows where there is a Rallye for sale that is in honest condition with documentation, I would love to know. I can assure it is going to a good home that respects the car and the history around it. Thanks gang! Hope to see response soon!

Welcome to the site! I'd watch ebay closely as they come across there fairly often. You might go through the cars for sale section on this site. I can't think of one recently posted, but you might find one that hasn't sold yet. As far as the transmission I would immediately discount the standard "single gate" shifter as not being correct. I've seen the Rallye 350 on both hardtop Cutlass and post F85 platforms, so it may have had a wide selection of options available. I'm not an expert though and I know we've got several Rallye 350 owners as members here. Hopefully someone who knows for sure will speak up. John

All trans options were available, 3 on the tree, 3spd manual on the floor, M20, M21, auto on column, auto on floor w/console, and auto dual-gate.

Cal, I made a typo in my previous post. What I meant to say is that the car you looked at could still be a real Rallye 350 with the regular automatic floor shifter. If the price was right, you could always buy this car the way it is now and intall the dual gate, "his and hers" shifter at a later date. John

Thanks for the reply. The car is in real good shape, couple of scrathces here or there and a small exhaust leak but otherwise sharpe. I am concerned about not having original paperwork. I know that mustangs have the "Marti" report and Pontiac the PHS. What can I do to track the history of my Olds? Is there such a report? Is it possible to get copies of the build sheets and such?

Cal,

Therein lies the rub, Ya can't with Oldsmobiles. It either has the paperwork or it doesn't.

So, it best to know the minutia about the car you want before you pull the trigger. I'm don't know squat about Rallyee 350 [except that they're cool] but others here can help ya out.
