hi, took my sending unit out of tank, and saw there was no little piece of wire inside on it inside the tank, looks like there was one there at one time ,and it broke off, am i right on a wire being there ? if so can i braze a new piece of wire on , and is it a special type of wire ? or is it a bad idea ?the rest of the sending unit and screen look very good, thanks for any help ,will.

You can certainly try and repair the unit if its not all rusty and cruddy. Usually the finely wound wire that is sort of a rehostat is broken and that is not repairable. There is the small wiper arm with contact on it that moves with the float across the fine wire. I suppose this could be repaired or you can look for another unit.
