64 Starfire Rear Axle ID

What is the name of this axle. I put in an overdrive trans and seriously considering putting in a lower gear in the back. Is it the B&P 8.2? BTW, I'm not at home (iraq), but paying (gag) someone to do the work for me or I'd go measure it myself.
thanks

Unless it was ordered differently, a Starfire will have 3.42 gearing. That's just about perfect for a street-driven 200-4R or 700R4. How low you thinking to go?

Application is 57-64 Olds and Pontiac. The big player gear companies have gears for them.

Ok found out it's a GM 9.3" "C" axle. Here's the link to Richmond. http://www.richmondgear.com/07Apdfs/page29.pdf

Yeah, think I should get the speedo cal'd first before I do anything. I'll be home in April.

I have it that with the M37 HD automatic, 3.64 and 3.90s could be had. Did any really come that way? 3.90s would really make a street monster out of the '64 Starfire (and JS1).

Starfire final drive ratios

I believe the 3:64 ratio (which is what I have in my 64 cpe) came standard with an A/C optioned car. They thinking or rational, was that motor would not have to work as hard with extra load of A/C.

I want to know more about the OD conversion. I have a good 200r4 and 700r4 in the garage. But adapter kits are almost a grand AND you supposedly have to cut the tunnel to make it work?? Gonna send a PM for more info.

FYI your starfire should not need the speedo recal'd regardless what gears are in it as the speedo reads off of the front wheel.

Follow up

As for getting the speedo recal'd, I had front disk brakes put in. Which worked out great for putting in the 700r4.

I'd still like to find a 3.64 or 3.90. I know there's a 4.10 with Richmond but it's a little high, would take away a large chunk of the gains from the overdrive.
