'63 F-85 questions

So I solved the flywheel problem and car is running great now - thanks for all the responses and help!

A few minor issues which need addressing:
1. The car was painted but the Oldsmobile letters on trunk were not put on and I"m trying to figure out how they attach since they fit into an area that cannot be accessed. The letters have flat/wide pins on the back and I can't figure out what clip could possibly work.
2. What weight gear oil should I use for the diff? Limited slip axle.
3. My motor mounts keep ripping - it's been an issue for as long as I can remember, anyone else have this problem? I've replaced all of the chassis rubber and have gone through numerous sets of mounts.
4. When I first start the car it fires for a second and quits, it will do this indefinitely until I floor it while starter is engaged and it catches; then it starts fine throughout day - any ideas?

Thank you!

I see no one has responded to your thread so Ill give it a go. Remember Its been a lot of years since I had a 63 and memory isn't what it once was. If I remember right the oldsmobile letters on the trunk lid are a push pin type. You should be able to lift them out with a thin flat blade screwdriver of phoenolic type of blade. they had a clear plastic type of round insert and the pin on your letters would go inside this plastic piece. The metal would push the plastic (mastic?)against the trunk sheet metal creating a bond for the letter, and sealing out water.
Don't recall the type of gear oil.
On the mounts my 215 came with a metal torque strap (thick cable type) and bolted to the engine, and the frame. My engine was from a donor car at DVAP. If this was orig or not, I couldn't tell you. I did reuse it and worked just fine. With the auto, the snap of shifting gears sounds like it maybe the culprit. JMHO.
Sounds like carb rebuild time, with todays fuels in cars not designed for it floats (other than brass), gaskets plungers get eaten up and require more frequent rebuilds or materials more well suited. Are any wires near your accelerator linkage? Just a thought. I realize your post is from awhile ago and you may have answers already.

I'm not sure on the clips, Joe P or Jensenracing can answer this.

There is a special additive that you need to add with posi's

3. My motor mounts keep ripping - it's been an issue for as long as I can remember, anyone else have this problem? I've replaced all of the chassis rubber and have gone through numerous sets of mounts.

I'll suggest a torque strap, rod, or cable also.

I would check the choke, also are you setting it properly when its cold? Before turning the key, 1/2 to 1 full pump of the gas pedal.

Thank you!
