Last month I was visiting a local scrapyard when this rolled across the scale to be scrapped. I couldn’t believe it, who scraps this car. The guy dropping it off told me it was his brothers car, he passed years ago and they were cleaning out the barn. Its been a lot of cleaning and mechanical work but it’s now back on the road. I am missing the spare tire rim (14x6) - anyone have one?
Glad you were in the right place at the right time to save that before the title reverted to salvage. Hope you got it for scrap price and then told the brother what those cars are worth.
Who scraps a car like that? Ignorant individuals who see only a non-running old car taking up space and just want it out of the way.
My 65 and 73 parts books show 59-62 except F85 use the same wheel, if that makes the search easier.
That's crazy. Especially to think it would happen in Michigan, where an old car so rust free would be more appreciated.
I'm not a huge fan of the 62 but that to me is the ideal color combo. Nice car. Go Broncos.
What timing and what a save. They must have had a bad relationship with the brother and decided they would scrap his car. I love 62 Starfires. Did that paint and interior really clean up that nice. So is the car a barn find or a junkyard find. Glad you saved it.
Yes the paint and interior cleaned up that nice. Mechanically I have done a lot of work. Has 77,000 miles on it. If I would not have been standing there at that exact moment chances are it would have gone into the crusher. This is the crazy part of the story, here is a picture of my father in 1962 with his new Starfire. He is now in his early 80’s and living in Florida. I am sending it down to him later this month.
Makes me sick that someone actually thought they should haul it to the crusher. Lazy, stupid, mad, small *****, check column D....You can fix stupid. Nice save!
Boy incredible save. Car people are fading more and more. Sad reality. Good for you. Even looks like it's the same color as your Dad's car. Love stories like this. 👍
I LOVE this story! Literally snatching it from the jaws of death. How many stupid people work at that wrecking yard anyhow?? All those employees and not one of them with the smarts to say- Don't crush it! I'll buy it. Unbelievable how well it cleaned up. There was seriously some issues between those brothers. Nobody I know cleans up an estate like that.
