Evening folks

On my 70 442 I had to replace my vacuum diaphragm as it would not actuate with a vacuum. The one that came with my car had a bend in the metal stick that presses on the valve in the air cleaner to allow hot air into the engine.

On the new one the metal stick is straight. I noticed on the valve in the air cleaner there is a hole that allows the metal stick to fit into it if I bend the stick.

My question what is the proper setup? I consulted my engine and assembly manuals and see no reference to how to setup.

Just to clarify, this is the valve in the snorkel of the air cleaner housing correct? John

OK, if someone doesn't post the answer first I'll dig around the garage to see if I can find a stock one to verify it should have the bend in it.

I had to replace the one in my '69 4-4-2 and the replacement piece came without the bend. I had to put the bend in it myself, which I did with a couple pair of vice grips. It turned out surprisingly well and the new assembly fit together nicely.
