Turn signal lever broken on 62 Dynamic.
My turn signal lever just flops up and down. It doesn't operate my signal lights. Does anyone know what the problem could be? If so, how do you fix it and what parts do I need? And where can I buy the parts? I heard there's some type of mechanism in the steering column that can break. Thanks for your time.

Yes, and it's all 46 year old plastic crap!!
I'd personally rather change the whole column that take it apart - and the part prices wil be close - if you can even find one, seperately.
I think it's called 'turn signal switch w/cancelling mechanism'.
Try to find a used column, even if you have to paint it - less hassle! Just make sure it's good!

I've got parts cars just for that reason and a turn signal switch could cost as much or more then $200.00 / $250.00. There's a company called Originalty Plus in California that's got what you're looking for but his prices are a little out of line, unless money is of no object.

Oh hell no, don't replace the column for that. I just had the same problem. I ended up getting a turn signal cancel cam from Rock Auto. It was a $7 item. Just take the steering wheel off and from there you can see what part is broken. The turn signal lever is supposed to bolt onto this plastic part, this is the "turn signal cancel cam". My car is a 66 Dynamic and I'm guessing yours should be similar, but make sure you check with Rock auto.
Better yet, call the guys at Shee Mar. I believe they supply Rock Auto. http://www.shee-mar.com/ I called them up and they were helpful.
This was a simple repair and my turn signal action is like new now.

I am not familiar with the 62 but some of the early cars have a switch that is down on the column with a cable coming from the lever, down the column and activating the switch. if it is that style then the cable or the mechanism in behind the steering wheel may be broken.

Look to see if the eyelet at the end of the rod is properly engaged onto the turn signal switch on the column. And whoever is paying $200 for these switches is smoking crack. Most of the time the contacts inside just have to be cleaned up. Or Fusick has them brand new for around $80
