job you hate most on these cars

I too hate having to do things over, and when you do the list of things just grows & grows!!! In '18 I went out to my garage & noticed an oil spot under the 442. It's never leaked a drop but looking around I saw that the back of the a/c compressor was all wet. The large rear o-ring case seal had failed. It was a "rebuilt" one that I put on in '14. The thing that really sucked was the car had been converted to R134a & it's not nice to paint, just like brake fluid. The crap leaked all over my restored frame & suspension on the rt side. I had to tear it all out & refinish everything again!! When I took the compressor apart I found the large case seals were the old style black o-rings?? which don't hold up with R134a. The whole thing morphed into a summers long project. I went through the compressor, replaced all its seals, flushed out the a/c system & converted it back to R12, it'll freeze you out of the car now! While the right inner wheelhouse was out I pulled the left one also to do some more detailing. I had a new set of body bushings & new front bumper that I'd bought a couple of years ago upstairs in the garage so I changed all the bushings(not one bolt broke!!! did some more detail work on the core support, put on the new front bumper & an NOS grille that I've had for 40 yrs. Since I was on such a roll after all that was done I redid the bucket seats,(Legendary makes awesome seat cover for '68s)
! It was a very productive summer.

Thanks, scrappie My car didn't come with headrests but they were available in '68. I just Like the look of them, they really finish off the seats. The metal guide channels for them are in the seat backs. you just need to buy the repop installation kit with the plastic guide tubes & locks. They don't make the tubes or locks for '68s but '69s are very similar will work with a little bit of dremmel work.
