How to separate the pieces of a 1972 bumper jack?

I messed with this yesterday and moved the back part to the top and the bottom and couldn't figure out the process for separating them? A clue please!

From what I remember - from 25+ years ago - yes, the sliding part does not come off of the bar when it's normally assembled. I'm sure whatever is blocking it on one side (stop tab? rivet?) can be hammered or ground off, but it's stored under the spare with the sliding part on the bar. The hook comes off and the foot comes off.
