Gas odor

75 Delta 88 Vert. I can smell gas for about 15-20 mi. :after putting gas in. 1/2-3/4 tank. Car has 91000 mi. No visable leaks under car or hood other than oil and trans. Didn't these smog era cars have a charcoal canister filter in the system somewhere? By the way it does have a rusted out Cat. conv. that needs trashed.

Check your tank and fuel lines for leaks. The sending unit on the top of my tank leaks if I fill up past 23 gallons.
I also had a "hidden" leak on top of the frame rail just in front of the rear passenger tire, it would evaporate before I could spot any drips. I ended up laying under the car for a half hour with it running before I found it.

I didn't let my wife read the part about laying under the car for 1/2 hour while it was running. Did I mention the rusted out cat. conv.? I need to go check the life policy.
