Fuel Tank Sending Unit
Fuel Tank Sending Unit
Hello Everyone,
I have a quick question about replacing my fuel sending unit. I am confused
about the Ohms and line sizes. My 67 Towne Sedan is all original and I believe that the standard fuel line is 3/8. I am concerned because the fuel sending unit that I am interested in purchasing has two options one 90 ohms the other 95. My car has air and I wanted to know if the ohms make any difference.
Thnnx

So far as I know, all GM cars have 0-90 ohm senders. The 95 ohm option may be for an aftermarket gauge.
Six cylinder and 330 cars had 5/16 single line.
400 (442 or Turnpike Cruiser) got 3/8 line.

I doubt that that 5 ohm difference would make any difference at all. If the car is supposed to have a 90, and you put in a 95, the only thing that would happen is that, when full, the gauge might read a little bit above the FULL mark as full corresponds to maximum resistance. When empty, the resistance falls to near zero, and this will be true for either the 90 or 95-ohm unit. Since it's really more important to know when your car is getting low on gas than it is to know how full "Full" is, either sending unit should work fine, everything else being equal.

Rockauto is a solid place. I've purchased from them several times with no problems, and their prices are often lower than anyone else you might check. Autozone, for example, sells the exact same thing (same part number, too), but they charge $56.99.
