Cover Under Steering Column

1968 Cutlass. Is the plastic cover that attaches to the metal part of the dash covering the steering column different for a tilt-column than it is for a standard column? I went to put mine back on after switching to a tilt column and it doesn't seem to fit anymore.

I didn't think so... but have not compared the two side by side. Does the column need to go up into the dash more for it to fit? Does the bracket where the three mounting studs go through look the same on both?

I reused the three hole mounting bracket from my standard column as the tilt column I got did not have one. The lower "bowl" part of the tilt column is bigger than the standard and I think that is what is getting in the way. I need to look and see if I can adjust the column farther aft at the three hole mounting bracket and get the necessary clearance. Hadn't thought of that until you mentioned it. Thanks.
