Convertible Top Fitment Issues.

Hi, guys. Judging by other '68-'72 A-body convertibles I've seen, I'm not the only one with this problem. My convertible top has had fitment issues ever since it was installed. The main and most obvious problem is a series of horizontal wrinkles in the C-pillar area of the top on both sides, just adjacent to the rear quarter windows. Looks like hell. The guy who installed it said to just leave it out in the sun for awhile, and that actually does improve things a little until the next time the top goes down and back up again and then I'm back where I started. Unfortunately I've since moved far enough away that I can't go back to him for a refit.

Are there any adjustments I can make, or does the whole top need to be refitted? The condition is driving me nuts, as it gives a decidedly low-rent look to an otherwise very presentable car.

Any ideas? I mean besides "only drive it with the top down," which is mostly what I do now anyway.

A professionally installed top should never look like that - that's why you paid a "professional" to do it!

I am not a professional, but I have installed two tops of that type, and I believe that the trimstick has to come off, up inside of the bottom of the top, and the sides of the top (the C-pillar part) have to be pulled in a little tighter.

An easy job for someone who knows exactly what he's doing, and a royal PIA for anyone else.

What Eric said, the wrinkles should never have been there after installation. That said...those wrinkles are usually a sign of tops being left down for long periods of time...days, weeks, months or always. A perfect top will show those if it's left down a lot. And...they probably won't come out.
