I have a 1966 98 and I’m looking to gut out the a/c pump and all the associated pluming. It doesn’t work and I have no real use for it and it is just in the way. Can I just disconnect it in these 3 places and be fine? Do I need to cap off the lines coming out of the radiator? Will I run into any other problems by doing this?

 

First, make sure there is no freon in the lines. There should be a valve that loks like a big tire valve somewhere on the lines. I can't tell you to stick a screwdriver in the valve and bleed it all off, because that would be environmentally unsound. Just make sure you use a looooong screwstick because pressurized freon can cause froostbite.

Once drained, feel free to rip out everything forward of the firewall including the "radiator", which is actually the condensor and sits in front of the real radiator. Will save you a few pounds there, too. Don't worry about capping it unless you are planning on putting it back in one day.

If you are really industrious, look up a company called American Graffiti. They sell a "suitcase" that replaces that big one sticking off your firewall. Cleans everything up quite nicely.

Thanks for your help. I didn’t even notice that “radiator” was just for the a/c. I got everything pulled out. It was ridiculously heavy.
