can anyone tell me if the bumper mounted air scoops for a 68 will fit a 71 cutlass.

I am probably putting my foot in it, because I have no personal experience with this. the engine compartments changed very little, and I believe bumper brackets are common. Others have the cars with the ducts to confirm, but I think they mount off the fender and bumper brackets. They should fit, but some light fabrication would probably be needed.

At worst you will need to tweak the brackets, but there is nothing to prevent it. Note that the windshield washer tank needs to go on the passenger side inner fender to clear the ram air tubes and if you have A/C the ducting may not clear the compressor (A/C was not offered on the 66-69 O.A.I. cars for this reason).

Here's a pic of a 69 W-32 with ram air and a/c. Is this a fake?

The 1969 order sheet indicates that A/C was not available with the W-32 package. You can draw your own conclusion.

I'm always skeptical when I see an expensive musclecar for sale that has recently been completely redone and sports a number of rare (but otherwise bolt-on) options.

Out of curiosity, isn't the engine supposed to be red on the hi perf cars? I also thought it odd that the engine compartment looked awfully fresh for the guts to look so tired. back to the color question I thought pre 70 hi out put engine were red, correct?

In A bodies the 400 which came in the 442 were Goldish but the W-30 did have red inner fenders
The only red one I know is the 455 in a 69 H/O

Bronze, actually. All 65-69 400s were bronze. 65-69 425s and 455s were red. W-32s came with black inner fenders.

Judging from the what I've seen on ebay and looking at my '71 cutlass, fitting it will take a lot of work. Both side of the radiator are filled in, might be due to the style change.

I may be wrong, but I believe the air ducts would come up from under the core support. the bulk of the labor should be fitting the scoops to the bumper brackets. But this is coming from a guy who has only glanced at it in a book.

Well the scoops and air cleaner snorkel sold on ebay for around 500. I need to research fittment on my 71 further. I also wonder if it would give you seat o the pants take notice.

I'd like to see how it fits on the 68/69 models. I just don't see how the scoops can elbow up on the 71 without much work. If anyone has pics it would be much appreciated.

Off the line you wouldn't notice a thing. I believe the most you would get out of it would be improved E.T's at the track. and altered fuel economy. I'm not sure if it would be better or not, But the ego factor shoots up! At low speeds you are not adding enough pressure to alter the effective displacement of the engine enough to notice. Increase the go factor and that changes.

The hoses go through the plastic wheelwells. There are holes cut into them. The bracketry is all you need, and of course a dual snorkel air cleaner. Good Luck! Jim

Don't they make repops? Wouldn't mind getting something like that for mine, but am not willing to pay the going rate for original. The work I do and profits, or lack there of are closely tied to the economic environment. Which obviously is not good right now.

Last I time checked, the repos don't come with a template to cut the holes...................so ya gotta be careful cutting into those nice new red fender wells

I'll see where I end up after I have my garage built, that'll be the first of Dec. Should be in good shape for a winter project as long as I get the electric done is short order.
