Added front Shoulder Belts to my 71 cutlass convertible
Added front Shoulder Belts to my 71 cutlass convertible
I found this kit from OPGI but ordered it straight from the company Morris Classic Concepts.

The kit was pretty easy to install. I did it in a couple of hours, It was a little easier for me because I had most of my interior already removed. The one thing you need to get is a really good drill bit for Metal. It installs using factory mounts. Just have to drill 1 hole. When I reinstall the interior I will have to notch part of the rear cover,

If anyone wants more pics let me know.
I did take a ride after they were installed about 70 miles. They were comfortable, better than I thought they would be.
I also hope I never have to give an update how they work in an accident.

I remain skeptical of aftermarket seat belt kits like this. GM crash tested cars to verify that the factory belts met federal standards. Shoulder belts were a factory available option for convertibles. They didn't mount with a bracket like that. Ask the supplier how many crash tests they've done on their product. Like TSA, they definitely provide the APPEARANCE of security.
I realize that they may not be perfect and probably screwed in the event of a bad accident. In the event of miner accident like hitting a deer like I have multiple times where I live don't want to pick the steering wheel out of my teeth.
Last time I hit a deer at high speed (in excess of 40 MPH), the deer went flying. The airbag in the car didn't even go off. A white-tailed deer runs 100-150 lbs. Physics suggests that a 3,700 lb car isn't going to be slowed down significantly if you hit one.
Also, if you see a deer, the first thing to do is deal with missing it. The second is look for its buddy as they usually are in groups.
Precisely. People wrecking because of deer do not wreck because of the deer; they wreck because of swerving to miss the deer. If you see a deer, brake, but do not swerve. Steer around it in a controlled fashion, and rest assured you will win over the deer should you hit it.

I have hit the head and front shoulder with the passenger side grill, headlights, fender and door. Another one was broadside and damaged the complete front grill, passenger headlights, passenger side fender and inner wheel well.

I guess I should have said a fender bender.
When I was in high school I had one jump off of a hill next to the road and land on the roof on my Chevy citation.
I guess we grow our deer bigger over here. During hunting season we regularly hear of deer well over 200 pounds. Last year a hunter on my property took a 202 pound doe.
