8Track Tape Player

I just picked up a factory 8 track player and an AM/FM radio for my 72 Cutlass S, the original radio was AM. Here are my questions: Do I need the Olds Stereo Adapter (fig 15-4, page 15-11 of the Cutlass Chassis Manual) to make this work. I have not been able to find any info about the stereo adapter. Next question: I have the one piece A/C valance under the dash, the 8 track will not fit without changing it to the 2 piece to work with the player, is there anybody selling this piece(s) as a reproduction or the stereo adapters?

Thanks

Just cruisin classic oldsmobile and saw your post about the 8 track. I know it's old but let me know if you still need the info.

Late 8 Track reply

You do not need the stereo adapter for the 8-track to work. If you cannot find the 8-track specific lower A/C valences, you can cut yours -- I've heard that's how they did it for dealer-installed 8-tracks. I remember seeing a guide on cutting somewhere. (Fortunately I found a pair of valences when I installed my 8-track; cutting anything original is scary!)
