69 Vista Cruiser Tailights

I have heard that 71 and 72 taillight lenses can be cut down or altered to fit the 1969. Is this true and have any of you done this type of modification?
Any help is appreciated.

Help? Yeah, try Google Images. They aren't even close. I suspect you could adapt the entire tail light housing, but then you'd lose the backup lights.
