tailights/backup lights......

Question tailights/backup lights......

ok hooked up new battery and have headlights,,park lamps (infront) no tailights,turn signals,,or brake lights,,cars been sitting 25 yrs..so idk...havent got to really examine the car closely,,,also weirdist thing,,the car has no 'back up lamps' were thrr suposed to be theres lil chrome plates 'in place' of were the lamps r supposed to be,,wuz this an actuall option or?? btw the car is a 1964 olds 98 4 dr. hrdtp..any info is much needed thank u....

Check yer fuses. Should be one labeled "STOP-TAIL" (I think that's the way the 64 was, my car's 20 miles away and books are at home).

A Ninety Eight should have had backup lamps standard, but they were still an extra-cost option thru 1967 or so. You see plenty of 88's without them, with the blank-off plate installed.

Park lights do not come on with headlights. They are on only when h/l switch is in park position. You'll find that the accessory lamps (trunk, glovebox, underhood, if car has them) are also wired to operate only with the lights on.

If fuses are OK then start checking grounds as they are probably rusty and have poor contacts.

i will check fuses n so on wow that soundz wierd the wiring set up on them lol...interesting,,yea i did look inside the trunk were the tailight wires r at and i thnk i need to rewire them they were cut n twisted together looks like,,i did have to reground the negitive cable to get the headlights to work,,i will keep u guys posted thanks again..
