1972 Supreme Radiator

Hate to say, but if your mechanic says to get a steel one, he does not know too much about cars...
I do not think steel was ever used as it rusts!
Factory units were copper and brass - standard issue. You can go with an aluminum one if you want, but if the motor is stock, either should work just as well. If going with a copper/brass one, a 3 row unit is the minimum size but a four row would be ideal.

Thank you
Thank you Lady72. It is I who does not know about cars. All I really heard was "not aluminum" as my three day old 72 was costing me $$$$-brakes, belts, etc. Oh well. Thank you I will go with aluminum. The motor is stock with 92K original miles.
Really, thank you agian-Bob

Glad I can help...
Hang around here long enough and you will learn a lot about these cars, which are quite simple compared to modern ones.
Copper/brass or alum will work fine. flush the block and heater core with water while you are at it if it has not been done in the past 10 years or so or if the old coolant looks nasty.
BTW, WELCOME to the forum!
