1969 cutlass/442 dash ductwork
Guys,
Whats a good solution to replacing/repairing the square fabric ductwork behind the dash? I think there are round aftermarket options but not sure how to make them fit right. Does anyone have decent originals i could purchase or a good way to to this?
Factory air car.
Any recommendations are appreciated!
Thanks
John

Bill the tape option didn't work out. One duct that was pretty much together but very dry it worked fine but looked like crap. the other duct was just falling apart. So now i ordered new ducts from the parts place that are supposed to be fabric. I am thinking i can shape the ends to fit the square hard parts. Will let you know how this works out and send some pics

So far i only have part completed. The center plenum takes a 2.5" round duct (got that from the parts place) its excellent quality and fabric like and fit perfect. see pic
The real trick will be the square and rectangular ducts-- will be getting those done over the next couple weeks and will provide updates with pics

OK - sorry this has taken me forever. Haven't been as focused on the car lately.
I purchased a 3" duct for the drivers side and 3 1/4 for passenger side from PP. The drivers is a tight fit but you can get it on the plastic vent. For the passenger side you need the extra 1/4" because the vent is more rectangular and the circular duct can not make the shape without a little extra material.
Anyway -- this seems to be working -- i'm not done yet and will keep you in the loop.
For attaching the fabric duct to the plastic vents the factory simply stapled it but to me with brittle old plastic you run the risk of splitting the plastic. I was also concerned that using duct tape will not be strong enough as im pulling the drivers side duct through and the tape ultimately would not hold.
So what i decided was to drill some very small holes through the duct and plastic and then wire the duct on. (cross the wire over the internal duct wire) This way you have it locked on without the risks above- see attached pics
