1966 98 Steering Repair

Does anyone know the exact procedure for getting the fluid back into the power steering system after complete disassembly? I had it a few years back after I had the pump and box rebuilt by Chip's in St Louis but I no longer have it. I failed to follow the procedure exactly the first time and caused the check valve in the pump to lock up, which had to go back to Chip's for correction. I don't want to have a similar problem again. Thanks, Bruce

I basically jack the car up so the front wheels are off the ground a bit. Start the engine after making sure the pump is full and turn the steering lock to lock a few times.

^^^THIS. And the "exact procedure" is in the Chassis Service Manual in the Steering section and it looks a lot like what Eric wrote. Basically you turn the wheels full lock to full lock with no weight on the front end until the noise stops.
