These tanks, and others similar to them, were the reason America adopted the automatic transmission so easily.
When these transmissions were first introduced by Oldsmobile in 1940 and Cadillac in 1941, they were a "dark art" to most auto mechanics.
But when the country went to war, GM set up a training school in Detroit and taught thousands of. Army mechanics to service and overhaul Hydra-Matic transmissions.
When the war was over, many of those mechanics became automatic transmission specialists.
The Hydra-Matic itself, went through a number of changes between 1942 and 1945 which made it much more rugged and reliable for tank duty.
These changes were incorporated in the 1946 cars.

The tank drew over 250 comments, some of which are educational and some are funny. If anyone has some spare time, read the comments. Videos are posted showing the tank driving and firing artillery. One guy wrote that he changed the tracks from steel to rubber and the tanks goes 90 MPH!! Apparently there are collectors for anything.
I want one.
Would not have to worry about anything the road could dish out...road rage gone, car jacking gone, deer to car hits, gone, t-boned at an intersection the t-boner is gone!
win win win! If the neighbors are pissed that your parked on the lawn go do a few right turns on theirs or...just point the business end at them...gone...as in running away with tail duct taped to their taint.
Never thought how many daily problems a tank could solve.

I completely agree. One of the comments that I made in the Bat auction was "Perfect Vehicle for Philly!". In Philly, it is close to impossible to park. The Philadelphia Parking Authority tows and impounds your car if you park in certain areas. With a tank, you can park wherever you want. Park in front of a fire hydrant, no problem. The tank cannot be towed!! You can park on any busy street without fear of ticketing or towing, shop, walk out with your packages, and get in your tank and drive home. No such thing as a traffic jam. No carjackings. To bad for the driver behind who lays on their horn. You can laugh if someone is insane enough to get out of their car to start an argument. Many advantages. One necessity after purchase of the tank: Vintage Air!!
