ID this head gasket problem???
The boat is an 88 Galaxy with an inline 4, has a OMC cobra IO. The owner thinks he blew a head gasket and turn the oil into chocklate milk.
It had bad compression on #1 cyl. 30# the rest were 150 or so. I checked the oil filter and drain oil for copper and found none. He did seize it up on the lake.
It turns over easy now so we're (I'm) going to throw a head gasket on there and hope for the best,
And are the head bolts torq to yield???

Pretty sure that is a 3.0 L marine/industrial specific GM engine and was not used in cars, if that is the question. Is there a horsepower label on the flame arrester cover?
With 30 lbs compression it may be a valve, an easy fix at this point. The valves could be leak tested easily while the head is off.

Seems to me years ago, a brother in law of mine had a Mercruiser IL4. If memory serves,
194 or 191 Chevrolet. Looking at the rockers, it may be one of those. His was pretty
bullet proof, ran great.

If this thing has blown a head gasket , I think the first thing you need to do is to have the head checked with a straight edge. There's a good chance it will need to be surfaced.
I would also recommend that it be magnafluxed to check for cracks.
While your at it , and since it's already apart , a valve job would also be a good idea.
The best idea for the torque specs is to consult an OMC manual as the specs may differ from a Chevy auto specification.

Well we changed the head caus it was cracked, the new head failed because the rocker studs pulled out. when removeing the head noticed head gasket failure... not sure if its a gasket or a cracked block, new everything when installed and done correctly.
what do you think cracked block or gasket failure??

too bad you are so far away, I have a complete mercruiser 3.0 in my garage all you would need to do is swap over the mounts and bolt it in. maybe we could swap for some clean az sheetmetal or a parts car lol
