My 388 stroker for my 1979 Cutlass

my388stroker.jpgI will post some pictures of the car when I get the chance. The engine is at the speed shop waiting for the dyno, I built it for about 550 HP. It will be going into my 79 with a turbo 350 B&M transmission with a 4.11 posi. The car is black with gold pearl and I am in the process of redoing the interior black as well. I just received my 3.5 inch cowl hood and also just put on a new set of American racing torque thrust M wheels. I am trying to have it ready for the KBPI car show on July 7th.

Welcome to the site. I moved your thread to the non Olds powered area. Looks like it will move out pretty good. Keep us updated with the results.

I will thank you. I was going to post in the newbie thread but was not sure as I have been a member since I had my first Cutlass in 2010. I am on my second with my 79 and my first was a 88 that I was told was an LV2. Also I just wanted to add that my car was a SBC car from the factory with a 305 Chevy, I have had a lot of negative comments about the Chevy engine under the hood. I will admit that I am a big Chevy fan and I would have swapped it out anyway. I have gone the Rocket rout and I did not like the way it went. The way I look at it is they are all GM and all great engines. I am racing against my brothers built 403 Olds in a 78 T/A.

My 388 Stroker

I had my engine on the dyno yesterday and it mad 500 HP and 500 ft pounds of torque. On paper after it averaged out it was 491.4 HP and 500 ft pounds of torque.

What rear axle do you have in that thing. If its a 7.5 you need to read this thread right now.

I am running a GM 7.5 in it without drag slicks. I was joking with my friend as we watched the engine dyno that I was going to put a ring gear through the trunk, but I figured if it spun the tires off of the rim it would probably be okay. The rear end already has a few passes on it so now you really have me worried. Thank you for the warning I will have to figure what I am going to do now. I am getting a built transmission with a Trans brake and full manual reverse valve body so the weak link is going to be the rear end.
