I just picked up my new F-150 with EcoBoost last week....gotta say, I'm amazed by the power this thing has at over 5,000 lbs! Which led me to start daydreaming a bit. How could this thing hold up in a '65 Vista Cruiser? It is a much lighter vehicle...
I've been really enjoying the LS conversions discussed here! What about an EcoBoost conversion?

 

Highly doubt anyone makes a standalone harness for those, meaning wiring would be a nightmare.

I've really wanted to test drive one of these back to back against a GM 5.3L V8 pickup.
They have slightly more HP out of the Turbo'd V6 Ecoboost, but the same MPG as the GM V8's.

All in all though, I really think Ford's interiors are leaps and bounds nicer then GM's.
Their V8 pickups are just really bad on mpg though.

The biggest hurdle in a swap like this would be choosing the transmission and doing the wiring.
You don't want the manual MT-82 that would bolt up because it's made in China and Ford's
having all kinds of denials of warranty claims with it.

The 6 speed auto in the truck seems pretty good...possibly that, although being a 4X4, I think I just answered my own question.......I had an '08 F-150 before this with the 5.4. No comparison with the EcoBoost...my buddy has the 5.0 Coyote in his F-150. Not too bad either.....possibly in a couple years, we may be seeing swaps using the EcoBoost? Too new yet

 

And you think some guys raise hell when you put a Chevy in an Olds, just wait until somebody puts a Ford in one. The Moderators will be busier than ever.

I think you'd have a one of a kind application here and that means BIG $$$$ in testing what fits.
It's not worth it in the end IMO. There's some Mustang guys trying to put one in a Fox Body.
Doubtful.....without cutting the entire trans tunnel out and elevating it several inches.

Have you seen the size of the new GM 6L80's up against a 4L80e ???
Keep in mind the 4L80e is the OD bigger version of the TH400 basically.

No, GM uses the Allison transmissions behind the Duramax.

That is just a 6L80e which is in every 2009+ full size GM SUV & pickup truck
The new Camaro has it also.

 

I test drove an Ecoboost, and a Hemi Ram. Already had and traded in my Silverado. I thought the Ford was impressive, but I drove a Hemi Ram after that. The Ram was faster and sounded more like a muscle car than a truck. Handling was better too. MPG trade off was about 2mpg but to me, it was worth it. Oh yeah, it also cost me about $7k less. Can't beat it right now.

Bet the Chrysler guys are busy dropping in new Hemi's into their old rides too.

 

I test drove the Eco boost I was pretty surprised at it's pep but I haven't seen it tow anything. I have an 06 F150 with the 5.4 and it has done everything I asked it to even when I'm looking at my gauges thinking "this is too big for this truck". I love Ford's I know I know but put your spears, tridents, ad nets away until GM brings back the 442 I'm saving for the 2014 Shelby.
