What year is the Chevy?

Hey everyone. I've been trying my best to identify what year this car is, it's either a 49 or a 50 Chevy.

If anyone can tell me what year this is and how you know that, I'd sure appreciate it.

I think the grille is about the only difference in the two years, but there isn't enough showing for me to tell. Anyone?

Thanks.

With the split windshield, I would place it as a '49?

It's a 49 or 50, would need to see a bit more of the grill to tell for sure. Bumper guards and trunk lid handle are different between the 2 years and would ID it as a 49 or 50 model if we could see them.

Short of a good look at the grille, hard to say if it's 49 or 50.

I can see enough of the divider bar under the parklight that it appears to have ribs, which would be a 50.

Thanks everyone. M455SX you're the only one with a positive answer as to the year. Why do you say it's a 49?

I was actually thinking I could see just enough of the grille to call it a 49. Also the front hood medallion is smaller on the 49 and you can't see any of it. But darn it all I just can't tell.

Well I'll keep at it and hopefully I'll be able to figure it out.

All i did was Google each car and i was able to determine that it was the grill that lead me to the year.

'49. The '50 had a thicker, fluted vertical bar below the turn signal.

Most excellent! Thanks Rocket. I had forgotten I posted on here about the picture. I dug out a picture of a 50 and I can see the difference. What a relief. I want to recreate this car but was stuck before I began.

I'm from Park Forest, IL, and this is the village's first police chief and the first police car. The first time I saw this picture I thought, that would be a pretty cool project recreating this car.

Apparently this is the only picture that exists of Car #1. I contacted Park Forest and no one has any information on this car. The earliest information anyone has been able to find is for a 54 Plymouth.

That's definitely a 1949, in 1950 the hood ornament had large wings that resembled a bird.
